Arlene M. Deppe

KELLOGG - Mrs. Gerald (Arlene Marie) Deppe, 63, a longtime resident of Kellogg, died Tuesday evening, July 9, at the Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband; four daughters, Charlene K. Berry of Newton, Mrs. Keith (Diana J.) Van-Dyke of Broomfield, Colo., Mrs. Robert (Marla J.) Modlin of Kellogg, and Mrs. Mark (Deborah L.) Siebert of Kellogg; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Also surviving are a brother, Virgil Doud of Grinnell and two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Olson of Grinnell and Mrs. Gerald (Doris) Flanagan of Kellogg.

Mrs. Deppe was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donald, in infancy and a sister, Wilma Foster.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kellogg.

The daugher of Peter and Hazel Howard Doud, she was born Aug. 2, 1921 south of Grinnell.

She attended rural schools in Hickory Grove and Rock Creek Townships in Jasper County and Grinnell community High School.

She was married April 13, 1940 at Unionville, Mo.

She was employed at the Kellogg Cafe for nine years and, with her husbnad, was a custodian at the Kellogg school for seven years. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1994
