Carl Machin

Carl "Pete" Machin, 102, of Nelson Manor Nursing Home, died Friday, Oct. 21, at the nursing home of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Frederick Kramer, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home starting today and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to Alzheimer's research will be accepted.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Joy of Newton and Victor "Buck" and Thelma of Houston, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lyda, Dec. 14, 1973, a daughter, Ella Callison March 13, 1974, four brothers, Bill, Harvey, Walter and Arthur, and four sisters, Nell Gallager, Ethel Paine, Alice Fox and Mary Wade.

Mr. Machine, a rsident of Jasper County since 1912, had been a farmer.

The son of Walter and Eliza King Machin, he was born Sept. 3, 1892 in Williamfield, Ill.

He was married to Lyda Mae Short Jan. 23, 1913 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1994
