Bertha Pauline Pietersma dies; Rites Saturday

NEWTON - Mrs. Charlie (Bertha Pauline) Pietersma, 69, of 617 E. 4th St. N, a resident of Newton since 1942, died Wednesday afternoon at Des Moines General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. John Mc Kinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday.

Memorials to the Colfax Christian Church building fund may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. David (Patricia) Gause of Iowa City and Marcia Pietersma of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth.

Mrs. Pietersma attended the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax and was a member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

The daughter of Burt Roscoe and Erma Clara Evans Saunders, she was born January 30, 1913 in Searsboro.

She was married October 8, 1932 at Montezuma. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1982
