Donald W. Pierce

Donald W. "Shorty" Pierce, 78, of Rt. 3, Box 20, Newton, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died this morning, Aug. 6, at the Skiff Medical Center of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. William J. Adams, assistant pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Mc Keever Cemetery, north of Colfax.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Irene I. of Newton; an adopted son, Randy Pierce of Des Moines; two sisters, Edna Bell of Colo and Marguerite (Mrs. Ray) Roush of Newton; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Magan Grosvenor-Page of Tempe, Ariz..

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Maurice and Bud.

Mr. Pierce, a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau and Sully Co-op and a baptised member of the Christian Church in Ira, was a retired farmer.

The son of Charles and Audrey Pearl Kendig Pierce, he was born July 5, 1913 in Jasper County and attended Jasper County rural schools.

He was married to Irene I. Dodd September 21, 1938 in Bethany, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1991
