Chester D. Pickett

Chester D. Pickett, 80, 605 S. 3rd Ave. W., a resident of Newton for 60 years, died Saturday evening, June 22, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the first United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Heart Association with the Jasper County Senior Citizens Center may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Donald of Newton and James, of Altoona; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Charles of Casper, Wyo., and Overton of Mitchellville; and two sister, Mamie Griggs of Monroe and Ruth Gray of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Omar Jay., and an infant sister.

Mr. Pickett was employed by the Vernon Co. prior to his retirement in 1970.

He was a member of the Jasper County Senior Citizens and United Auto Workers, local 997, Retirees Union. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1991
