FARRAR - Russell D. "Bud" Payne, 74, a lifelong resident of Farrar, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of heart disease.

The funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Farrar United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Farrar Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell from 1 to 9 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Farrar Methodist Church or the American Heart Association will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife,Done May; two sons, Allan of Rocky Mount, Va., Stephen of Ogden; a brother, Robert of Newton; a sister, Doris Norton of East Tawas, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Payne, a farmer was a member of the Farrar United Methodist Church.

The son of Simeon and Mary Dunlap Payne, he was born Aug. 10, 1916 in Farrar.

He was married to Done Mae Wert Aug. 18, 1940. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
