Obera E. Parker

Obera E. Shaw Parker, 84, at the Newton Health Care Center, formerly of Mc Cann Village, died Saturday morning Jan. 5 at the center following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Branch President Bruce Jensen of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will conduct services. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Jasper County Genealogical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Dorman Parker of Newton; a daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Roy L.) Still of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leland Shaw of Fond du Lac, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd, Oct. 22, 1954, two brothers, Raymond Shaw and Leslie Shaw, and a sister, Dorothy Brezenski.

Mrs. Parker a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was a homemaker and farm wife from 1926 she 1954.

The daughter of John Whittier and Jenny Rowena Armstrong Shaw, she was born November 22, 1906 at Abington, Ill., and was a 1925 graduate of Grinnell Community High School.

She was married to Floyd Edward Parker Jan. 27, 1926 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
