George C. Pack

Funeral services for George C. Pack, 94, of Newton Health Care Center, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Jasper County Citizens or the First Christian Church may be left at the funeral home.

He died Tuesday at the center.

Survivors are son, Donald of Wichita, Kan.; three daughters, Ilene DeVore of Des Moines and Lucille Pack and Vaundeen (Mrs. Ernest) Kastner, both of Newton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Hoadley of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Neva Violet, June 15, 1987, a son and daughter in infancy, and infant brother and a sister, Lois Case.

Mr. Pack, a farmer for many years, and an employee at the Maytag Co. until retiring in 1962, was a member of the First Christian Church, Jasper County Senior Citizens, Senior Citizens Kitchen Band and a former King of the Golden Age Club and RSVP.

The son of Thomas and Sarah Dunkin Pack, he was born December 23, 1896 in Mitchellville.

He was married to Neva Violet Mc Connell July 25, 1918 in Leon.

The Packs resided in Newton from 1950 to 1962 when they moved to go see Osceola. They moved back to Newton in 1970. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1991
