Jack L. Vanderlinden

Funeral services for Jack L. Vanderlinden, 56, of 716 E. 5th St. n., a resident of Newton since 1984, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Father E. William Kaska, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in his name may be left at the funeral home.

He died Wednesday evening at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are his wife, Carol K.; three sons, Jack R. "Sonny" Vanderlinden of Oskaloosa, Rick Bernard and Jack Bernard, both of Harvey; two step-sons, Mark Metz of Newton and Doug of Texas; three step-daughters, Debbra (Mrs. John) Irwin of Newton, Barbara (Mrs. Gordon) Schmidt of Baxter and Sherry of Texas; and several grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Dale of Baxter, Ray of Joplin, Mo., Robert of Ankeny and Paul of Pershing; and five sisters, Ruth (Mrs. Bill) Mikesell and Lucy (Mrs. Joe) Urias, both of Newton, Edna May (Mrs. Charles) Nelson of Melcher, Muriel (Mrs. Harry) Sharp of Knoxville and Viola Knapp of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ira, and a sister, Lois Still.

Mr. Vanderlinden, a member of the American Legion Post III and Moose Lodge 923, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having servced in Japan and Korea.

He had been a dispatcher for Gifford-Hill Cement Co. of Houston, Texas.

The son of Ira and Belle Sims Vanderlinden, he was born Jan. 12, 1936 in Knoxville and was graduated from Knoxville High School.

He was married to Carol K. Waskow April 13, 1990 in Newton.

Mr. Vanderlinden lived in Monroe until 1964 when he moved to Houston, Texas. He lived there until moving to Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1992
