John W. Van Manen

SULLY - Funeral services for John W. Van Manen, 78, a lifelong resident of the Kellogg, Sully and Reasnor areas in Jasper County, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Sully First Reformed Church.

The Rev. Daniel Hakken, pastor of the Sully First Christian Reformed Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday at the Sully Garden Chapel Funeral Home.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Leona; four sons, Marion of Des Moines, Ronald of Kellogg, Richard of Reasnor and David of Altoona; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Also survivinig are two brothers, Pete and Art, both of Sully, and two sisters, Gertie (Mrs. Marion) Verwers of Newton and Nellie (Mrs. Bert) Van Wyk of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Van Manen, a farmer in the Kellogg and Reasnor areas, moved to Sully in 1969.

The son of John W. and Maatje Koopman Van Manen, he was born June 9, 1909 near Kellogg and attended rural schools in the Kellogg area.

He was married to Leona De Zwarte Feb. 24, 1936 in Sully.

He was a member of the Sully First Chirstian Reformed Church. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1987
