Ben Veenstra

Ben Veenstra, 76, of 838 E. 15th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1990, died Sunday evening, Oct. 4, at his home.

No services will be held. Mr. Veenstra's body has been donated to the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines.

Memorials to Friends of Iowa Public Television, 6450 Corporate Dr., Johnston, Iowa 50131, will be accepted.

Reese Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Surviviors are his wife, Nellie; a son, Richard, of Tracy; a daughter, Neala Veenstra of Newton; four grandchildren; a brother, Henry of Newton; and a sister, Marie Veenstra of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mr. Veenstra, a mail carrier for 28 years prior to his retirment, had farmed, was a truck driver and had been a coal miner.

He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II in the European Theatre.

The son of Henry L. and Marie Groenendyke Veenstra, he was born Feb. 10, 1916 in Bussey and was a 1933 graduate of Bussey Community High School.

He was married to Nellie Vanden Berg Aug. 15, 1938 in Attica. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1992
