Mrs. Zenas Stevens Dies at Hospital; Services Friday

Mrs. Zenas (Mary E.) Stevens, 58, of 814 W. Sixth St. S., a lifelong resident of Jasper County died at 12:20 a.m.(typed as written, should be p.m.) today at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Chapel.

The Rev. Robert B. Willhoite minister of the First Baptist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. James (Theda) Van Hoosen and Mrs. Wayne (Nancy) Biehl, both of Newton; six grandchildren and an aunt, Mrs. Sam Pollard, of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and a sister.

An active member of the First Baptist Church, Mrs. Stevens was a deaconess at the time of her death and chairman of the church music committee.

She was a former Newton telephone operator.

The daugher of Hull A. (typed as written, should be Andrew Hull) and Rachel Lamb Irwin, she was born in Colfax Dec. 28, 1908 and was educated in Colfax schools.

She resided in Colfax until moving to Newton in 1928.

She was married to Zenas Stevens July 6, 1935 at West Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Feb. 1, 1967

Mrs. Zenas Stevens Services Conducted

Funeral services for Mrs. Zenas (Mary E.) Stevens, 58, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, were held this afternoon at the Johnson Chapel.

The Rev. Robert B. Willhoite, minister of the First Baptist Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Ron Toppenberg, organist, accompanied the soloist, Jack Martin.

Pallbearers were Gerald Lanphier, Fred Wicklund Jr., Kriby Skow, Clinton McClintock, Ronald Hotger and Robert Day. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1967
