Fred Koppin 80, of 162 Main Street, Groton, a long time area resident and retired employee of SCM Corp., died unexpectedly at his home Oct. 18. He was born Oct. 17, 1887, in Germany, the son of William and Anna Kratz Koppin. He farmed for many years in South Dakota, coming to Groton in the late 30’s.

Surviving are his wife, the former Edith Todd; a granddaughter, Miss Judy Button of Ithaca; one brother, George Koppin of Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Finnegan of Osakis, Minn.; Mrs. Florence Casswell of Salt Lake City, Utah, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. at Booth Co. Funeral Home, Groton, the Rev. Ronald Place, pastor of Groton Community Church officiating. Interment was in Groton Cemetery.
