UNIONVILLE - Amos Edward "Dick" Jarvis, 61, of Unionville, Mo., a former resident of Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 6, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after suffering a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Joseph Babcock, pastor emeritus of the Foursquare Church in Newton and the Rev. Stan Meade of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in the Milan Cemetery in Milan, Mo.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in his name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are three sons, James and Jeff, both of Newton, and Michael at Grinnell; a step-daughter, Dee Crady of Newton; a brother, Otis Leslie of California; a nephew; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Jarvis, a construction worker for 30 years, had worked for Cardinal Trucking in Newton and Pillsbury Co. in Davenport.

This son of James A. and Alice F. Young Jarvis, he was born April 23, 1928 in Milan, Mo.

Mr. Jarvis, a resident of Newton for 25 years, moved to Unionville, Mo., five years ago. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1990
