SULLY - Gerrit J. Jansen, 87, of Sully, a lifelong resident of the Sully area, died Tuesday, March 6, at the Pella Community Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Sully Christian Reformed Church.
Dr. Joseph Brinks, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Sully Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
Memorials to the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are son, Kenneth of Pella; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Effie (Mrs. John) Vos of Sacramento, Calif., and Nellie (Mrs. Case) Harthoorn of Sully; and several step-children, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mattie, April 14, 1973, his second wife, Wilma, May 16, 1970, four sisters, Hattie Jansen, Cobie Jansen, Minnie Rolff and Bertha Van Genderen, and two brothers, Herman and John.
Mr. Jansen was a member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church.
The son of John and Jennie Plate Jansen, he was born may 7, 1902 South of Kellogg.
He grew up in the Sully area and attended public schools.
He married Mattie Lanser Jan. 26, 1938 in Sully and, after her death, he married Wilma Vander Beek June 15, 1974.
Mr. Jansen farmed for many years north of Sully. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1990
