MAXWELL - Funeral services for Harlan Lewis Oartwieg, 82, of Maxwell, a former longtime resident of Baxter, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter.
The Rev. Charles Holmgren, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter.
Memorials to the family will be accepted.
Mr. Oartwieg died Monday at the Mercy Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He and his wife, Asbrene Ellen, were injured in a fire recently. His wife died Nov. 9.
Survivors are a son, William, of Newton; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Don) Coate of Maxwell and Marie (Mrs. Tim) Young of Cheylan, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, a brother and a sister.
The son of Herman and Jossie Loupee Oartwieg, he was born June 4, 1911 in Baxter and was educated in Baxter schools.
He was married to Asbrene Ellen Caukins in 1938 in Davenport.
A former member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, he farmed in the Baxter area for many years.
He had resided in Maxwell for the past nine years. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1993
