MAXWELL - Funeral services for Ellen Caukins Oartwieg, 75, of Maxwell, a longtime resident of the Maxwell and Baxter areas, who was killed Tuesday in a mobile home fire in Corpus Christi, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ.

The Rev. Charles Holmgren, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call at the Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter after 2 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the family will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Harlan, who was injured in the fire and presently is hospitalized; a son, William of Newton; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Don) Coate of Maxwell, and Marie (Mrs. Tim) Young of Chelan, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and a geat-grandchild.

Mrs. Oartwieg was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, brother and five sisters.

The daughter of William and Mossie Brady Caukins, she was born Sept. 23, 1918 in Marion County.

Raised in Knoxville, she was a graduate of Knoxville Community High School.

She was married to Harlan Oartwieg in 1938 in Davenport. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1993
