Henrietta C. Rempe

PELLA- Henrietta Cornelia Thomassen Rempe, 83, a former resident of the Sully, Otley and Monroe communities, died Sunday, May 22, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held today at the Pella Trinity Reformed Church.

The Rev. Donald W. Plantinga conducted services.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton.

Memorial to the Trinity Reformed Church may be left at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and Alice of Mooresville, N.C., and Bob and Marlene of Harrisonville, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father who died in 1951, mother in 1955, and a brother, Rueuben E. Thomassen July 23, 1985.

She was a charter member of the Pella Trinity Reformed Church.

She was adept at playing the piano, crafts, knitting and crocheting.

The daughter of Marion J. and Wilhelmine Vander Meiden Thomassen, she was born April 7, 1911 near Pella.

She attended Plainview Country School and was a 1929 graduate of Pella Public High School.

She was married to Gerald J. "Jack" Rempe at the Pella First Christian Church March 1, 1937.

They farmed west of Leighton for seven years, south of Sully for two years and then east of Otley until 1956.

The Rempes resided in Monroe for a year and a half before moving to Pella in 1958.

Rollowing Mr. Rempe's retirement from the Pella Community School, they traveled and camped extensively throughout the country, including Florida and Arizona.

They were active in the good Sams calping club. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1994
