Funeral services for LaVerne Roush, 72, of 309 E. 29th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1942, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Public Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today and visitation with the family will be held from the end of the Masonic services until 8 p.m.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.

He died Wednesday evening at Skiff Medical Center of cancer.

Survivors are his wife, Frances "Frannie;" two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Janet of Newton and Dave and Jean of Berthoud, Colo.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Rial of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, three brothers and two brothers in infancy.

Mr. Roush, a building contractor (siding and installation) space (typed as written), was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge 59 AF and AM, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Des Moines, Nazareth White Shrine of Newton, Newton Chapter 100 Order of the Eastern Star and Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655.

The son of Roy and Lucy Elwood Roush, he was born December 25, 1921 in Des Moines.

He was married to Frances Pyle July 5, 1940 in Lancaster, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1994
