Alice P. Reed, 96, of Heritage Manor Care Center, formerly of 400 N. 2nd Ave. E., a teacher in Jasper County for 40 years, died Saturday evening, Jan. 15, at the care center of congestive heart failure.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the church, willl conduct services. Burial will be in Winfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church library or the organization of the donor's choice will be accepted.
Survivors are a niece, Nancy (Mrs. Robert) Ludwig of Guymon, Okla.; and two great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Miss Reed was a member of the Newton Chapter 100 Order of Easter Star, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Newton Woman's Club, First Presbyterian Church and retired teachers' and historical groups.
The daughter of James Bennett and Orpha May Freshour Reed, she was born Jan. 25, 1897 in Winfield. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Iowa Wesleyan College at Mount Pleasant and master's degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1994
