Father Edward Susic

COLFAX - Father Edward Susic, 71, of Colfax, the priest at the Colfax Immaculate Conception Catholic Church until his retirement January 3, died Friday evening, March 4, at the Luther Park Health Center in Des Moines of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Bishop William E. Franklin and Bishop Gerald O'Keefe will conduct services. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the church.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton from 2 to 4 p.m. today and from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church.

Memorials to the Colfax Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will be accepted.

Survivors are a brother, Ricardo of Colfax and a sister, Catherine Susic of Colfax.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rudolph and Ivan Susic.

Father Susic was a member of the Newton Knights of Columbus and Croatian Fraternal Union in Des Moines.

The son of Frank and Filipina Starcevich Susic, he was born November 14, 1922 in Colfax, was a 1940 graduate of Colfax Community High School, was graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport in 1943 and was graduated from St. Paul's Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He was ordained into the priesthood May 31, 1947.

Father Susic also served parishes in Keokuk, Clinton, Davenport, Ottumwa, Newton, Lovilia and Pella. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1994
