Aneta G. Vance

Aneta Gates Vance, 84, a 700 E. 3rd St S., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Saturday evening January 15, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, Senior Citizen or to a fund in her name will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Harry; a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Marvin Munger of Newton; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a brother, Simon Gates.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Vance, a homemaker, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Newton Chapter 100, Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors, Jasper County Senior Citizens, Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Newton Women's Club.

The daughter of Simon and Georgia Randolph Gates, she was born August 21, 1909 in Newton and was educated in Newton schools.

She was married to Harry L. Vance September 4, 1927 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1994
