Harriett M. Tharp

Harriett M. "Nannie" Doane Tharp, 73, of 1705 N. 6th Ave. E., a lifelong resident of Newton, died this morning, Nov. 12, at Skiff Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Scott Coulter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.

Memorials to Progress Industries may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are two sons, Dick and Chuck, both of Newton; a daughter, Suzie (Mrs. Bert) Vander Schel of Newton; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charlie Doane of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and Loren in 1988 and her brother, Bud Doane.

Mrs. Tharp, a homemaker, was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

The daughter of Harry C. and Marie P. Zimmerli Doane, she was born January 19, 1918 in Newton and was in 1935 graduate of Newton Community High School.

She was married to Loren D. Tharp Dec. 23, 1938 in Unionville, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1991
