H. Wayne Townsend

H. Wayne Townsend, 68, Rt. 1, box 234, Colfax, died Saturday morning, October 26 at his home following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Harold Den Hartog of Pella, retired pastor, assisted by the Rev. Garold Quick, pastor of the Metz Community Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

The visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Clara; a son, Steven "Pete" of Colfax; a daughter, "Tootie" (Mrs. Rick) Samson of Newton; and three grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Kenneth and Myron "Butch", both of Newton, Max of Williamsburg and Carroll of Coralville; and two sisters, Coleen Brown of Newton and Ruth Follen of Durand, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents in August, 1959, a son, Jeffrey, in 1971 and a brother, Donald, in 1981.

A farmer since 1950, Mr. Townsend also had worked for B and B Implement in Newton and as a self-employed carpenter.

He was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau.

The son of Harry F. and Veva Patterson Townsend, he was born March 8, 1923 in rural Baxter and attended Jasper County rural schools.

He was married to Clara A. Boucher November 12, 1944 in Des Moines.

He had resided in the Newton, Kellogg and Colfax communities. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1991
