COLFAX - Ruth L. Williams, 91, a resident of Colfax since 1969, died Saturday, July 17, at the Mitchellville Care Center in Mitchellville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. William Gardner, interim pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax, and the Rev. Neville Clayton will conduct services. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials to the Howard Street Christian Church will be accepted.
Survivors are son, Howard Jr. of Colfax; three daughters, Leona (Mrs. Don) Jewell, Doris (Mrs. Don) Swanson, both of Colfax and Mary Ruth. (Mrs. Don) Mercer, of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister Edith (Mrs. Joe) Stayner of Colfax.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard Sr. in 1974, a granddaughter, a brother and three sisters.
Mrs. Williams, a retired schoolteacher, was a member of the Colfax Howard Street Christian Church, CWF organization of the church and the Senior Citizen Singers.
The daughter of Edward S. and Susan Curry Meckley, she was born February 7, 1902 in Colfax, was a 1919 graduate of Colfax Community High School, and was graduated from Drake University in Des Moines.
She was married to Howard Williams Sr. January 8, 1923 in Des Moines. The Williams farmed in the Colfax area prior to moving to Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1993
