Sylvia M. Swanson, 93, of Heritage Manor Care Center, a resident of Newton since 1974, died Wednesday evening, January 31, at the Manor of heart failure.
Graveside rites will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
The Rev. Todd Schlitter, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.
Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are a son, William E. of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Ruth S. Allen of Newton; six grandchildren; and a brother, Harvey Daggett of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward, July 1974, a brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Swanson, a homemaker, had been a secretary in Des Moines for many years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the 4-0 Sunday School class.
The daughter of Lineus and Phoebe Daggett, she was born May 25, 1896 in Conrad and was graduated from Eldora High School and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines.
She was married to Edward A. Swanson in 1926 in Des Moines.
Mrs. Swanson had resided in Des Moines 40 years prior to moving to Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1990
