LeRoy Benjamin Foster Obituary 1897 - 1974

LeRoy Benjamin Foster, 77, of 610 Reed St., Grinnell, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 3, at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of Benjamin W. and Anna M. Burch Foster, he was born May 29, 1897, in Chester Township. He attended rural school near his home.

On Oct. 31, 1916, he was married to Bessie Thompson in Marshalltown. The couple had seven children, Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Foster who died in 1967; Mrs. Homer (Anna Marie) McCormack of San Jacento, Calif.; Mrs. Virgil (Marion) Johnson of Grinnell; LeRoy W. Foster of Kellogg; Mrs. Floyd (Barbara) Innis of Grinnell; Nancy Foster of Rosemeade, Calif.; and Frances Foster who died in infancy.

Following their marriage, Mr. And Mrs. Foster farmed near Grinnell and Newburg. In 1942, they moved to Grinnell to make their home.

Survivors include his five children; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. William (Elsie Marie) Erwin of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his wife Bessie who died Feb. 7, 1953; two children; one grandson; his parents; and nine brothers and sisters, Mrs. Angie Clindinin, Mrs. Hattie Mae Chenoweth, Ralph Foster, Mrs. Fannie Huff, Earl Foster, Mrs. Grace Harter, Fenton Foster, Ray Foster and Clarence Foster.

Funeral services for Mr. Foster will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove EUB Church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Leonard Pearce, and pallbearers will be Dean Clark, Russell E. Koger, Loren E. Innis, William Innis, Jerry McGinnis and Rollie McGinnis.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
