JACKSON, Tenn. - Robert Eugene Long, 261 Stonehaven, Jackson, Tenn., a former resident of Newton, died Wednesday, September 11, at Nashville, Tenn.
Graveside rites will be held at Newton Union Cemetery immediately following family visitation. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Memorials to the Newton Salvation Army will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Roberta Arlene; a son Michael R. of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Sherilyn Cottrill of Rock Hill, N.C., and Lynette Chakkayshak of North Kingtown, R.I.; and five grandchildren.
He is also survived by brother-in-law's and wives LaVern and Jo Ann Nida of Newton and Bill and Marilyn Molleck of Des Moines, as well as son-in-law Forrest Hiatt of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Venice Jr.
Mr. Long, president of the Muller Optical Co. of Jackson and Progress Lens Lab of Largo, Fla., was a member of the Northside United Methodist Church in Jackson, Tenn., the Jackson Country Club and Optical Lab Association.
The son of Venice and Myrna Long, he was born October 17, 1929 in Baxter and was in 1948 graduate from the Newton Community High School at which he was a member of the football team.
He was married to Roberta Hiatt of Newton in 1950 at the Little Brown Church near Nashua. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1991
