Stephen L. Leydens
ANKENY - Stephen Lee Leydens, 37 of 7101 NW 21st St, Ankeny, and died Monday morning, March 18, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton
The Rev. Scott Coulter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials to AIDS research foundation will be accepted.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today.
Survivors are his parents, Clarence and Vera Leydens of Ankeny; his partner, Steven Frazier of Ankeny; a brother, Mark Leydens of Des Moines; a sister, Terrie Olinger of Des Moines; his grandmother, Bessie Leydens of Newton; and two nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mc Kinley and Vera Brown, and his paternal grandfather Conrad Leydens.
Mr. Laydens had been a U.S. Postal Service carrier in Manhattan Beach, Calif. for 12 years, retiring in 1989.
The son of Clarence and Vera Brown Leydens, he was born March 14, 1954 in Des Moines, was graduated from Ankeny high school in 1972, attended Des Moines Area Community College for two years and Iowa State University for two years.
He moved to California in 1978, returning to Ankeny in 1990. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1991
