Death of Cyrus Eatwell
Cyrus Eatwell son of John and Helen Eatwell was born, March 17, 1859 in Wisconsin and came to Iowa when he was eight years of age. He died at his home in Clear Creek township, Sunday, April 12, 1931, aged 72y. He had been in poor health but was ill with pneumonia one week.
Nov. 5, 1882 he was united in marriage to Orpha Longnecker of this community and they have spent their lives on the farm in Clear Creek township.
Mr. Eatwell was a member of the Methodist Protestant church, the Odd Fellows lodge and held various offices for years.
They were the parents of nine children, six sons; Frank of Prairie City, Thomas on the home farm, Carl near Melbourne, John and Alfred of Mingo and Clarence who died in infancy; three daughters, Edith, Mrs. Chas Setzer of Elwell, Edna, Mrs. Fred Geisler and Ruth, Mrs Ray Hall of Clear Creek. Besides the wife and eight children he has twenty grandchildren, one brother, Albert Eatwell of Eldora and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Dunlap of Farrar and Mrs. Mary Downey of Mitchellville and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at the Turner Memorial Church at Farrar Tuesday at 2 p.m.., Rev. J. C. Nutt of Des Moines, a former pastor and friend and Rev. John Payne of Farrar in charge. Burial was in the Farrar [sic-Graham] Cemetery. A large crowd of relatives and friends attended.
