Ruby Henze, 80, of Newton died of a heart ailment Wednesday at her granddaughter's home near Monroe. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with burial at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Henze was born in Hartwick and had lived in Newton since the 1930s. She was a retired inspector with the Maytag Co., and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Women of the Moose, Academy of Friendship, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Pocahontas Lodge, United Auto Workers Local Retirees Union and the Isaac Walton League.

Survivors include a son, Richard Meldrem of St. Petersburg, Fla., two daughters, Iola Doty of Cosmo, Minn., and Fay Moore of Isabella, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Women of the Moose. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1994

Ruby E. Smith Henze

Ruby E. Smith Henze, 80, of 703 E. 10th St. S., a longtime resident of Newton, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 16, at the home of her granddaughter, Elsie Foster, in Monroe of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Ken Ahntholz, interim pastor of the Newton Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Women of the Moose will be accepted.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Rachel Meldrem of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Iola (Mrs. Louis) Doty of Cosmo, Minn., and Fay Moore of Isabelle, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vivian Parker of Eustis, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Elton Meldrem, second husband, Arthur Henze, March 14, 1972, her daughter, Helen Mc Cumber, April 20, 1993, three brothers, four grandchildren, including twin granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

Mrs. Henze was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose, Academy of Friendship, VFW Auxiliary, Pocahontas Lodge, United Auto Workers Local 997, Retirees Union and the Izaak Walton League.

She had been an inspector at the Maytag Co. until retiring Nov. 30, 1974 with nearly 25 years of employment.

The daughter of Sealy S. and Katie M. Rupp Smith, she was born May 17, 1914 at Hartwick and attended Brooklyn schools.

She was married to Arthur Henze Dec. 31, 1964 at her home in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1994.
