R. K. Underwood Sr.
COLFAX - Robert K. Underwood Sr., 77, a resident of Colfax since 1954 and chief executive officer of the Monroe Co. in Colfax for 34 years, died Saturday, July 9 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church in Colfax.
The Rev. Clayton Sugg, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
Memorials to the church or Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.
Survivors are three sons, Robert, Jr. of Mitchellville, Steven of Colfax and Tom of Des Moines; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 1982, three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Underwood, who had worked at the Monroe company. For 40 years, was a member of the ZA-Ga-Zig Shine (typed as written) in Des Moines, Colfax Country Club, the Drake University "D" Club, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and had served on the Colfax First National Bank Board of Directors for 25 years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The son of William and Ada Buck Underwood, he was born March 12, 1917 in Dixon, Ill., and was graduated from Drake University in Des Moines.
He was married to Ruth W. Freed August 24, 1940 in Huxley. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News July 1994.
