Paul Van Maaren Dies Saturday; Rites Tuesday
Paul H. Van Maaren, 60, of 111 E. 19th St. S., a resident of Newton for three years and a longtime Kellogg area farmer, died Saturday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church in Sully.
The Rev. Wayne Tripp, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the First Reformed Church in Sully will be accepted.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home until 9 p.m. today at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time is services.
Survivors are his wife, Nellie; four sons, Alvin and Gary, both of Littleton Colo., Marvin of Newton and Conrad of Kellogg; three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Nelda) Cleaver of Slater, Mrs. Steven (Pauline) De Vries of Marshalltown and Nancy Van Maaren at home; 13 grandchildren; and his mother, Mrs. Sarah Van Maaren of Pella.
Also surviving are five brothers, Cornie Van Maaren of Denver, John Van Maaren of Monroe, Elmer Van Maaren and Alfred Van Maaren, both of Pella, and Gerald Van Maaren of Newton; and four sisters, Mrs. Art (Hilda) Rus, Mrs. Don (Beulah) Van Haalen and Sarah May Van Maaren, all of Pella, and Mrs. Henry (Esther) Dykstra of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Van Maaren presently was employed as manager of Suncrest Village and Newton.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sully.
The son of Garrit and Sarah Boender Van Maaren, he was born July 31, 1916 in Marion County.
He was married to Nellie Vonk March 14, 1939 at Kilduff. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1976
