John T. Lamb

John T. Lamb, 78 of 610 East 2nd St S., a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Sunday afternoon August 12 at Colonial Manor in Baxter of a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Robert Hinshaw of Kellogg, pastor of Ashton Chatel (typed as written), north of Mingo, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Lung Association or in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Mary; five sons, Etmer of Ventura, Calif., Ken, Dan and Jim, all of Newton, and Ron of Des Moines; two daughters, Violet "Pip" (Mrs. Peter) Hildreth of Des Moines and Linda (Mrs. Rusty) Massengale of Malcolm; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Forest "Bud" Lamb of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gerald, Everett and Bushnell, four sisters, Roxie Kenner, Lucretia "Lol" Trout, eleanor "Nornie" Altemeier and Violet Lamb, and a great-grandson.

Mr. Lamb, a farmer had worked at the Newton Daily News. From 1961 to 63, at the Vernon Co. from 62 to September 18 of 1981 and had been a driver for Newton Cab in 1947.

He was a 41 year member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.

The son of Price Munger and Nettie Dunbar Lamb, he was born November 18, 1911 in Malcolm.

He was married to Mary Laverna Witte October 13, 1946 in Carrolltown, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 12, 1990
