R. Loraine Hancock Law, 80, a resident of Newton since 1933, died Tuesday afternoon, March 12 at Nelson Manor Nursing Home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from seven to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the first Christian Church may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Benjamin; a son, Roland of Newton; a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Rodger) Caylor of Marion; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Hancock of Newton and Rory Hancock of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by his (typed as written) parents, great-grandson, a brother, Ray Hancock, and a sister, Delores (Mrs. John) Martin.

Mrs. Law was a member of the First Christian Church, a longtime church choir member, a former church organist, Sunday school teacher and deaconess and member of the Loyal Daughter Sunday school class and the Rowena Club.

A homemaker, she formerly had taught rural schools in Davis County.

The daughter of Elroy and Merna Myers Hancock, she was born February 9, 1911 in Belknap, attended Davis County schools than was graduated from Newton Community High School in 1929.

She was married to Benjamin Law October 1, 1933 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 12, 1991
