Benjamin E. Law

Benjamin E. Law, 83, of 604 E. 8th St. S., a longtime resident of Newton, died Saturday evening, June 1, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from seven to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Christian Church may be left at the funeral home or at the church.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Kay Law of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Roger Caylor of Marion; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Minerva Marose of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Loraine, March 12, 1991, a great-grandson, and two uncles who had a great influence on his early life, Charles and Virgil Barcus.

Mr. Law, a longtime owner-operator of Newton Radio and Electronics prior to his retirement in 1971, was a member of the Newton Christian Church.

The son of Benjamin Edward and Mary M. Barcus Law, he was born June 29, 1907 at Youngstown, was a 1928 graduate of Newton Community High School and took a postgraduate course in electronics by the International Correspondent School in Scranton, Pa., offered at Newton Community High School.

He was married to Ruth Loraine Hancock October 1, 1933 in Newton.

Mr. Law also had resided for a short time in Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1, 1991
