Irwin "Doc" ("Doe") Sanders, 86, of Newton died of a respiratory ailment Thursday at Skiff Medical Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders was born in What Cheer and lived in Mingo before moving to Newton several years ago. He retired as an assembler at Parsons Co. in Newton, was a veteran of World War II and had been a member of United Auto Workers retirees union.

Surviving are a son, Vernon of Mingo; a sister, Luella Binegar of Newton; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Irwin Sanders

Irwin "Doe" Sanders, 86, of 922 E 9th St. N., a longtime resident of Newton and former resident of Mingo, died this morning, Feb. 25, at the Skiff Medical Center of respiratory failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Duwayne Hanke, pastor of the Community Reformed Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Judy Sanders of Mingo; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Luella Binegar of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna, Feb. 19, 1982; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Sanders, a retired assembler at the Parson Co. in Newton, was a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997. He served during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations.

The son of Homer and Nellie Ling Sanders, he was born June 26, 1906 in What Cheer.

He was married to Anna K. Kalma in 1937 in Knoxville. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1993
