Eugene H. Schmidt born December 4, 1929 died January 24, 2007.

Visitation will be held at the Wallace Family Funeral Home Friday, January 26. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 27,2007 at the Congregational Church of Christ in Baxter. Interment immediately followings services at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Those left to honor Gene's memory are his three sons, Harold (Debbie) Schmidt, and Tom (Lisa) Schmidt, all of Baxter, Iowa; Alisha (Dan) Meyer of Newton, Iowa; his 16 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Larry (Janice) Schmidt of Baxter and Leland "Pete" (Laura) Schmidt of Portland, Tennesee; his 3 sisters, Nadine Dee of Baxter, Margaret (Chuck) Swallwell of Newton, and Joan (Burt) Smith of Newton; long time friend and companion, Loretta Stubbe of Marshalltown; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Jack, Charles, and Dick Schmidt; and his two sisters, Leona Fahrney and Esther Shattuck.

Gene was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ in Baxter.

He was a production worker for 31 years at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1981. After retiring from Maytag he worked for 5 years for the Baxter Schools.

BAXTER — Eugene H. "Gene" Schmidt, 77, of Baxter died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, in the Hospice of Jasper County's Monarch Wing in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter with the Rev. Rollin Watters officiating. Burial will be at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials in Gene's name may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.

Survivors include his three sons, Harold (Debbie) Schmidt, Daniel Schmidt and Tom (Lisa) Schmidt, all of Baxter; his daughter, Alisha (Dan) Meyer of Newton; 16 grandchildren, Travis and Troy Schmidt, Michael, Sean, Rodney, Mark and Brent Armstrong, Andy, Brad and Stephanie Schmidt, Tiffany and Thaddius Schmidt, Derrick and Dylan Hansen, Nicolas and Brooke Meyer; two brothers, Larry (Janice) Schmidt of Baxter and Leland "Pete" (Laura) Schmidt of Portland, Tenn.; and three sisters, Nadine Dee of Baxter and Margaret (Chuck) Swalwell of Newton, Joan (Bert) Smith of Newton; longtime friend and companion, Loretta Stubbe of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.
