MRS. BENJAMIN PASSES AWAY
Pioneer Resident of Jasper County Dies Here this Morning After Long Illness

Mrs. Sarah Benjamin, a resident of Jasper county for nearly half a century, died at the home of her son, William Benjamin, on North Fourth Avenue West, at 8:30 o'clock this morning. She was 83 years old. She is survived by four children.

Mrs. Sara Benjamin was born in Whales in 1834 and she came to this country in 1862 settling first in Pennsylvania. In 1872 she came to Iowa and located with her parents to Jasper County in the Palo Alto neighborhood where she had made her home until the death of her husband twenty seven years ago, whe she moved to this city. For several years she has made her home with her children in Newton and Colfax. She was a member of the local Baptist church since girlhood.

Four children survive. They are Mrs. Rachel Rexroat and Mrs. Mary Longren of Colfax and David and William of this city.

funeral services will be held at the Palo Alto church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be made at the Palo Alto cemetery.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. BENJAMIN HELD AT PALO ALTO

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Sarah Benjamin were held at the Palo Alto church at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. C. H. Berry, pastor of the local Baptist church preached the funeral sermon. The pall bearers were George Hill, William Kreagor, William Conn, J.W. Rhodes, Hugh Smith, and John O'Roake, Sr. Music was furnished by the Palo Alto church choir and a male quartet of Welch singers. The choir sang two songs, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Asleep in Jesus" the quartet, Messrs B. Jones, Davis, Dave Evans and Wilding sang a Welch hymn. Burial was made in the Palo Alto cemetery.

Those who attended from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Dave Evans, John Jones, Mrs. Maggie Davis. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Evans and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jones.
