Darrel Matheny Is Killed On Okinawa

Word was received her Tuesday by Theodore Matheny that his brother, staff Sgt. Darrell D. Matheny, 22, had been killed in action on Okinawa on June 2. Sergeant Matheny had made his home with his brother for the past 13 years, after the death of his parents.

He graduated from Newton High School in 1941 and entered the service in October, 1942. He received his training at Camp Adair and at Camp White in Washington, being shipped overseas in August, 1944. At the time he was killed, he was stationed with the infantry on Okinawa.

Sergeant Matheny is survived by one sister, Mrs. Glen Temple, and three brothers, Theodore, Fred of Reasnor and Normie, at home.

Before entering the service he was employed at the local Super Market. ~ Newton Daily News, June 28, 1945.
