OBITUARY. - A week ago last Sunday, Dr. J. S. Wright was stricken down with paralysis. He lingered until Thursday in an unconscious state, and then passed away. He was born at Belleville, Illinois, Feb. 12, 1841.

After entering upon the practice of medicine, he lived at different places in Illinois until 1878, when he moved to this city. He brought with him his three young daughters, his wife having died in 1877. The last one of his daughters was married a few months ago. Up to that time, he always committed his home to their care and was a faithful and kind father. One of the daughters, Mrs. Anna Silsby, lives in California, another Mrs. Lillian Patrick, in Cedar Rapids, and another, Mrs. Laura Reeves, is a resident of Newton. The daughter in California could not be present at the funeral. He has one brother and one sister in Illinois. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church at 2 o'clock last Sabbath. The sermon was preached by Rev. Harrah, and Pres. Aylesworth assisted in the opening services. The audience entirely filled the house; and this large attendance showed the respect in which the Doctor was held by the community and the symptahy that our people feel for the bereaved family. ~ The Newton Journal, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 1893.
