Louis Teslik, 91, of Grinnell died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at St. Francis Manor.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 11, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Elliott, pastor of the Colfax Christian Church, officiating. Pianist was Kathleen McCune. Casket bearers were members of the Malcom American Legion. Burial was in McKeever Cemetery near Colfax. Memorial may be made to the Malcom American Legion % Smith Funearl Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell IA 50112.

He was born Feb. 2, 1912, at Chelsea to Rudolph and Katherine Jiroudek Teslik. The family moved to Elberon where he graduated from high school after which he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad. He was married on May 2, 1940, in Muscogee County, Ga., to Helen B. Runyan Battles. He served over 20 years in the United States Army including during World War II in Europe. He was stationed in Germany following the war, later returning to the United States where he was stationed at various army bases as an artillery and missile instructor. Following his military career, he owned and operated a gas station in Clear Lake. The couple moved to Grinnell in 1976.

He was a member of the Malcom American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by one stepson, Royal Battles of Colfax; one stepdaughter Ramona Swanson of Newton; three step-grandchildren, ten step-great grandchildren and one sister Agnes Quigley of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one step-grandson, four sisters and two brothers. ~ Grinnell (IA) Newspaper, December 11, 2003.
