Evelyn T. Witt, 92, of Newton died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at her home in Park Centre.

A private family graveside service is planned at Melbourne Cemetery in Melbourne. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

No visitation is scheduled. Memorials to Park Centre may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Clearance and Lucy (Lindsay) Henderson, she was born March 10, 1914, in Davis City. She graduated from Toledo High School and attended Simpson College. On Aug. 11, 1939, she married Wilbur W. Witt, in Toledo. She retired as a teacher and taught first grade in Melbourne school district for more than 20 years.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Melbourne. She grew up in Toledo, lived in Melbourne for 38 years and in Mesa, Ariz., for 14 years prior to moving to Newton in 1991.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Witt of Newton; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Virginia Henderson of Mission, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter and brother.
