Mabel L. Warner, 96, of Newton died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at USA Healthcare -- Newton.

There will be a private family graveside service at Bethel Cemetery in rural Baxter.
A visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials will be accepted to American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of George Harold and Jessie Belle (Tufts) Hill, she was born July 16, 1909, in Rhodes. She graduated from Farrar High School in 1927 and received a teacher's certificate from Ames College (ISU). She also graduated from the University of Commerce (AIB) in Des Moines in 1930.

She was a homemaker and cleaned houses for families. Prior to her marriage, she was a teacher at White Haven Country School in Polk County. She enjoyed reading and being with and talking to people. Mrs. Warner was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Marilyn Snook of Des Moines and Lavonne and Dick Sparks of Newton; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Kinney of Harlan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, David; a daughter, Esther Smith; a brother, Elmer Hill; and two sisters, Bessie Hill and Mary Cleverley.
