KELLOGG -- Billy Jack Vermillion, 82, of Kellogg died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at USA Healthcare -- Newton.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in the Veteran's Section. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

A visitation with the family will follow the memorial service at the church. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.

The son of William Lewis Vermillion and Alma E. Cafferty, he was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Iowa Falls. He attended Newton Senior High School and attended Des Moines Technical Trade School for one year. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

On Feb. 15, 1948, he married Marjorie Myers in Beaman. He was a construction engineer for Maytag Company for 40 years and retired in 1987. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Newton Elks Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, boating, dancing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dr. Steven J. Vermillion and David M. Vermillion; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothersand sisters-in-law, James M. and Roberta Vermillion of Newton and Dr. Richard and Pat Vermillion of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Neil Vermillion and three sisters.
