MONROE -- Carl Ver Heul, 90,of Monroe died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Pella Hospice Comfort House in Pella.

A funeral service was today at Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe. Burial was at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella handled arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Monroe Fire Department.

The son of James and Bessie (Roush) Ver Heul, he was born Oct. 12, 1915, in rural Monroe. He received his education in Monroe schools, completing the eighth grade. He farmed for 52 years and lived in the Monroe area his entire life. On June 25, 1937, he married Ruth Dunaway in Newton.

Mr. Ver Heul worked for Reasnor Telephone Company as a lineman and also for K &K Hardware in Reasnor. He was a nature lover, enjoyed watching girls softball and enjoyed poetry, country music, woodworking and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Ver Heul of New Jersey and Darrell and Sonja Ver Heul of Monroe; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Chapin of Ainsworth, Jeanie and Dick Marsden of Red Oak and Patty and Rich Eilander of Monroe; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Nolin of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Kenneth and Jasper Ver Heul.
