Wilma Susan Sparks, 83, of Newton died Sunday, April 30, 2006, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jack Gray, pastor of Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully, officiating. Burial will be at Sully Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Newton Christian School or Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing.

The daughter of Lammert and Cornelia (Dieleman) Moes, she was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Sully. She attended Sully Christian School. On Feb. 23, 1944, she married Dick Jansen in Sully. She later married Ed Sparks in Nashua on July 4, 1949. She was a homemaker and worked as a central supply technician at Skiff Medical Center for 15 years.

Mrs. Sparks was a member of Newton Christian Reformed Church. She played the organ and enjoyed traveling, camping and cooking. She was a member of Mary-Martha Circle. She was a resident of Jasper County for most of her life. She lived in Sully, Newton, in Harlan for 20 years and then back to Newton in 2001.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Edmund and Lydia Sparks of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Donna and Joel Bruinema of Sioux City and Rosemary Beede of Des Moines; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Arlene Moes of Sully; five brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Moes of Altoona, Irene Moes of Sully, Edna Copeland of Sigourney, Velma Sparks of Montezuma and Lloyd and Alice Sparks of Lynnville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; four sisters, Jenny Moes, Elizabeth Vos, Gertrude Pleima and Cornelia Moes; and two brothers, Ralph Moes and William Moes.
