DES MOINES -- Alice Roberta (Vernon) Sholley, 88, of Des Moines died Friday, May 12, 2006, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

A memorial gathering was today at 11 a.m. at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. A private burial will occur at the Dallas Cemetery in Melcher-Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Taylor House Hospice.

The daughter of Robert A. Vernon and Leatha O. Miller, she was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Melcher. She lived most of her life in Knoxville and Des Moines and also lived in Newton for a time. She enjoyed her church and doing anything with her family, including ballgames, watching the balloons in Indianola, Sunday dinners and all the many birthday and holiday celebrations.

She is survived by her six children, Lester and Linda Isley, Larry and Chris Isley, Roberta Isley Selsor, Grace Isley, L. Marylee Higdon Fitch and Robert and Amy Higdon; 18 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two grandchildren.
