BAXTER -- Gary D. Schweinebart, 72, of Baxter died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bucklin of Baxter Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name at the funeral home and will be used for several different community projects.

The son of Frances A. Pink, he was born Sept. 28, 1933, in rural Baxter. He graduated from Baxter High School in 1952. On July 2, 1954, he married Bonnie J. Snyder in Newton. He was a farmer and also worked as a production worker for Maytag Company. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Schweinebart was a member of Jasper County Farm Bureau and had been a member of Iowa National Guard. He enjoyed farming and enjoyed watching sprint car races in Knoxville on Saturday evenings during the racing season.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Jim Matheny of Shellsburg and Patty and Mike Schroyer of Baxter; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant daughter.
