Marilyn K. (Van Cleave) Schwabe, 61, of Newton died Monday, July 3, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Glenn and Enid (Caylor) Van Cleve, she was born March 30, 1945, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1963 and worked for Newton Manufacturing Company as a word processor for 24 years. She retired in 2005.

She was a PTA member and on the board of directors for the Newton Alumni Association and a member of Newton Manufacturing 25 and More Club. She enjoyed junking (curbside shopping), garage sales, dancing, music, computers, playing cards and meeting, being with and talking to people. Besides Newton, she lived in Hampton and Kansas City, Mo.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Julie Schwabe of Eldora, Doug and Christa Schwabe of Newton, Kan., and Chad and Stephanie Schwabe of Newton; a daughter, April Schwabe of Marshalltown; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marsha and Chuck Holderness of Independence, Mo., and Diana Chance of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, John Winegardner.
